'INTO THE LIGHT'
Fall Semester 2015
El Paso, TX
This course is to focus on the importance of knowing each character and all elements to the scene. Not only must they explore their own characters but that of others. A close eye will be looking into intention, motivation, and conflict. By the end each actor will easily be able to define objectives, breaking scenes into beats, understanding the arc of the scene, pursuing the objective, playing ACTIONS, and overcome obstacles. Many silent scenes, short dialogue, television and movie scenes will be used to apply this technique too.
SUBTEXT PRACTICE
Fall Semester 2015
El Paso, TX
Giving our students a challenge, they went through one page of dialogue. They had to show the impact of subtext in a scene. Some call it the “lines between the lines” or “the unsaid meaning.” Writers love to use subtext in scripts because it adds an extra layer of complexity to scenes and their characters.
